A 20-year-old woman has been remanded in custody after being charged with arson in connection with the ongoing moorland fire near Dovestone reservoir. Shania Care-Slede appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on July 14, where she faced two charges: one count of arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and one count of dangerous driving.
Court Appearance and Charges
Ms Care-Slede, of Market Street, Hyde, was not asked to enter pleas during the afternoon hearing. District Judge Simon Blakebrough transferred her case to Minshull Street Crown Court, where she is due for a plea hearing on August 18. The judge remanded her in custody until that date.
Firefighting Efforts Continue
Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were first called to Dovestone on Saturday night. In a recent update, GMFRS stated the fire 'remains active.' A spokesperson said: 'The moorland fire remains active but is currently in a steady state, with around 70 firefighters, 11 fire engines and four wildfire units from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service continuing to make progress across the area.'
The spokesperson added: 'Crews remain on scene carrying out firefighting operations to contain and reduce hotspots, supported by partner agencies. Progress throughout today will be influenced by weather conditions, which continue to be closely monitored.'
