Two cyclists have died after a car collided with three riders on a road in Kent, with three people arrested in connection with the incident.
Emergency services were called to Sole Street in the village of Cobham at around 7.47am on Sunday following reports of a crash involving a car and three cyclists.
Kent Police said a white Ford Focus was travelling along the street towards Meopham when the collision happened near the junction with Round Street.
Victims pronounced dead at the scene
Despite the efforts of paramedics, two cyclists — a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s — were pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed.
A third rider was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries police described as minor.
Three arrests made
Two men, aged 20 and 21, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
A 19-year-old woman was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender, according to Kent Police.
Appeal for witnesses
The force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the car or cyclists before the incident, to come forward.
Motorists with dashcam equipment or residents with private CCTV have also been urged to contact the force.
