Child Pronounced Dead After Being Found in Vehicle
Police in Hallandale Beach, Florida, are investigating the death of a two-year-old child who was allegedly left in a hot car by a babysitter. The toddler was found by their father in a vehicle outside a daycare center on July 5, 2026, when temperatures reached 38°C. Despite being rushed to hospital, the child was pronounced dead.
Police Response and Investigation
The Hallandale Beach Police Department responded to a hospital at around 1:35 p.m. after receiving a report that the child had been left inside a vehicle on Northwest 7th Avenue. In a statement, police said: “Hallandale Beach Police Department officers responded to a nearby hospital following a report involving a two-year-old child who had been left inside a vehicle while in the care of a babysitter at a residence in the 900 block of NW 7th Ave. The child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.”
The case is described as an “active and ongoing investigation,” with officers continuing to gather and review evidence. No additional details are available for release at this time. The police added: “This is a heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts are with the child’s family, and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Police Chief Urges Vigilance
Hallandale Beach Police Chief Michel Michel reminded parents and childminders “to make it a habit to always check the back seat before locking your vehicle.” He said: “A simple routine, such as placing your phone, purse, or another essential item in the back seat, can serve as a reminder and help prevent an unimaginable loss. One last look can save a child’s life.”
Similar Incident in Broward County
This tragedy occurred less than 20 miles from a similar incident in Plantation, Florida, on June 29, 2026. In that case, a father left his toddler in a car outside a daycare center after mistakenly thinking he had dropped the boy off. He went to work and realized the error at the end of the day. That investigation is also ongoing. This marks the second child death in Broward County in less than a week due to being left in a hot car.
