Thailand's prime minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, visited the site of a devastating fire at a Bangkok pub that killed at least 27 people. Speaking to reporters at the scene, Anutin confirmed the death toll, stating, 'Right now, we have been able to bring the deceased bodies out. For that, there were already 27 bodies. The rest were sent to hospitals already, and we are still checking their conditions.'
Fire Broke Out Shortly Before Midnight
The fire erupted just before midnight on Sunday, rapidly filling the pub with smoke, according to survivor accounts. Patrons fled to the back of the venue near the bathrooms, where they became trapped. Anutin noted that the quick spread of smoke made escape difficult, contributing to the high casualty count.
Casualties and Injuries
In addition to the 27 confirmed deaths, at least 22 others were critically injured and transported to nearby hospitals. Authorities are still assessing the conditions of the injured, with some in serious condition. The prime minister expressed condolences to the families of the victims and promised a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
Investigation Underway
Officials are working to determine the origin of the fire and whether safety regulations were violated at the establishment. The incident has raised concerns about fire safety standards in entertainment venues across Bangkok. Anutin urged all businesses to comply with safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
