A young man in Texas has been killed after a dispute with a neighbour over a loud party turned deadly. Police in San Antonio confirmed that Edward Trejo, aged 29, was shot multiple times during a violent altercation in the early hours of December 21.
From Complaint to Confrontation
The incident occurred at a residence on the 300 block of Cincinnati Avenue just after 5.15am. Trejo had been attending a holiday gathering with friends when a neighbour, identified by authorities as Paul Flores, 40, filed a noise complaint. Instead of waiting for police, Flores went next door to confront the partygoers directly.
A heated verbal argument broke out between Flores and Trejo, which quickly escalated into a physical fight. The struggle spilled from the house into the front yard and onto the street. During the fight, Flores produced a firearm and shot Trejo several times.
Emergency Response and Arrest
Officers responding to reports of a shooting found Trejo with multiple gunshot wounds. They performed emergency life-saving measures at the scene before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck.
Paul Flores was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on the same day. He was booked into the Bexar Adult Detention Center, where he remained as of the following Monday. If convicted of murder, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
A Community in Mourning
Edward Trejo was remembered as a well-respected and beloved member of his community. He worked at the Benson Auto Group in San Antonio, where colleagues described him as dependable and supportive. A sign bearing his catchphrase, 'I got you,' now sits on his empty desk.
In the days following his death, tributes poured in on social media. Trejo, affectionately nicknamed 'Fatso' by loved ones, was a member of the LGBTQ+ community sports league Diablos OutSports. The league posted a tribute highlighting his kindness and the lasting impact he had on those who knew him.
His sister, Ayanna Trejo, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, writing: 'My heart is shattered... you were my safe place, my protector, my biggest support.' On Sunday, around 200 people attended a memorial where they released blue, gray, and white balloons in his honour.
