A 16-year-old boy has died after entering Swanholme Lakes in Lincolnshire, the same lake where another person died just weeks ago. Lincolnshire Police received a call at 5.48pm on 9 July 2026 reporting a concern for safety at the lake. The teenager was recovered from the water and treated by emergency services at the scene.
Teenager died in hospital despite initial response to treatment
According to Lincolnshire Police, the boy initially responded to treatment but later died at 8.50pm that evening, with his parents at his bedside. The force confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family.
Second death at Swanholme Lakes in weeks
The tragedy comes shortly after another death at the same location, raising concerns about water safety. The Mirror has launched the Save Lives For Sam water safety campaign to address the UK's growing drowning crisis. The campaign is backed by MPs, Olympic champions, national water safety organisations, and bereaved families.
Campaign calls for urgent water safety measures
The campaign calls for compulsory water safety lessons in schools, a nationwide public awareness campaign, better lifesaving equipment at high-risk waterways, the introduction of Sam's Law, and a dedicated Minister for Water Safety. The Mirror encourages readers to support the campaign.
