Oklahoma Teen Charged with Murder After Adoptive Mother Found in Trash Can
Teen Charged with Murder of Adoptive Mother in Oklahoma

A 16-year-old boy from Oklahoma has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after his adoptive mother was discovered beaten to death and concealed within a trash can, according to official court documents filed by prosecutors.

Brutal Hammer Attack Described in Court Filing

Jordan Weems stands accused of the vicious killing of 49-year-old Spring Weems in their Edmond home. A newly released filing from the Logan County District Attorney's office, obtained by local news outlet KFOR, details a harrowing sequence of events.

The document alleges that Jordan threatened to kill his mother before retrieving a hammer and lying in wait to ambush her during the night. "When his mother came upon him unsuspecting, he attacked her viciously and brutally, striking her with the hammer and his fist in excess of a dozen times," the DA's office stated in the filing.

Discovery of the Crime and Teen's Confession

Police located Spring Weems's body on Wednesday after she was reported missing. According to a Logan County affidavit cited by news outlet KOCO, the investigation began when one of Spring's biological children visited the home a day prior and inquired about her whereabouts.

Jordan reportedly told the sibling that their mother had left to assist his sister with a new baby. Growing concerned, the biological child contacted their father on Wednesday, stating that "something was not right." The father subsequently filed a missing person report with the Logan County Sheriff's Office.

After speaking with another adopted child in the household, the father received the devastating news. The child reportedly told him that Jordan "killed Spring with a hammer and she was in the trash can at the street." Neighbors indicated that Spring Weems had three adopted children, including Jordan.

Upon being taken into custody, Jordan confessed to authorities. He admitted to using a hammer from the garage to attack his mother, striking her "until she wasn't moving anymore" before placing her body into a trash can.

Charges and Background of the Accused

Jordan Weems now faces formal charges of first-degree murder, desecration of a human corpse, and unauthorized removal of a dead body. The precise motive for the horrific attack remains unclear at this early stage of the investigation.

The District Attorney's office noted that the teenager had no prior criminal record. However, the court filing reveals a troubled background, indicating that Jordan "has previously been committed to psychiatric hospitals for suicidal ideation," according to statements from his father and the Sheriff's Office.

Further context emerged from the affidavit, which described recent disciplinary issues. One of Spring's other adopted sons told investigators that he and Jordan had been in trouble for sneaking out and fleeing from police. As a consequence, they were made to write apology letters, and Jordan had his bedding removed and was required to wear an orange jumpsuit "to show him what life as a prisoner might be like if he did not start behaving."

Information regarding Jordan Weems's legal representation was not immediately available following the filing of these serious charges.
