Tommy Morrison, the Tartan Army fan who went viral after finding love during the World Cup, has a new flame just days after being bailed for a brutal street attack. The 38-year-old joiner from Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, posted a photo with a mystery woman on social media, prompting dozens of comments from friends.
New Woman Praised by Friends
William McLardie joked: “Much nicer than that American burd.” Scott Sutherland added: “Onwards and upwards Tommy lad, we all make mistakes and none of us are perfect.”
Morrison became an internet sensation when his romance with Boston local Jill Roberts took off while he watched Scotland in the city. The 42-year-old American dumped him last month, citing “unresolved matters” from his past.
Court Case Over Brutal Attack
Days later, Morrison admitted assaulting a man to his severe injury and impairment at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, with the charge reduced from attempted murder. He is currently on bail pending sentence.
Earlier this month, the court heard Morrison’s victim, Ryan Wain, had been on a night out with a woman, Ms McClure, on May 22, 2025. The pair encountered Morrison in the Anvil Inn in Bonnyrigg. Witnesses said the couple were thought to have been arguing, and Morrison shouted “woman beater” at Mr Wain before dragging him to the ground.
Victim's Injuries
Mr Wain hit his head on the concrete and lost consciousness before Morrison punched him in the head and stomach. Ms McClure pleaded with Morrison to stop and tried to pull him off her friend, but he continued to punch and kick Mr Wain while he was unconscious before running away.
Police arrived to find the victim with a swelling on his skull and blood pouring from his mouth and ear. He was later diagnosed with a frontal skull fracture. His injuries have left him suffering from a loss of hearing, smell and taste.
Viral Romance
Morrison handed himself in to police three weeks later. He was dubbed “Tartan Army Tommy” during the World Cup after meeting “Boston Jill” in June. The Massachusetts mum went to watch the Boston Red Sox for Pride Night and on her way home bumped into Morrison heading towards the train station.
A conversation followed, with Jill recording their encounter and the video racking up thousands of views on social media. Despite not exchanging numbers, the pair were connected when one of his ex-girlfriends passed on his details. They began messaging on WhatsApp, with Jill describing the relationship as an unexpected gift from Scotland’s World Cup.
Their relationship blossomed so much that she booked flights to Scotland for a reunion. In August, she ended their relationship and the Record revealed that he faced a serious charge. When discussing the split, Jill said in an emotional video: “I’ve let him know that it’s over for me based on some things that happened. He has some unresolved connections with the past that he needs to resolve or pursue. I am walking away from this relationship with my head held high, feeling good and having clarity on it. It is what it is.”
