Jovhan Pascoe, 27, was sentenced to life imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court on July 13, 2026, for the brutal rape of a woman in her own home. During the sentencing, Pascoe displayed appalling behaviour, including swearing, making gun gestures, and exposing his bottom to the judge via a video link from HMP Forest Bank.
Courtroom Outburst
As Judge Timothy Smith summarised the case, Pascoe repeatedly swore, waved his arms, banged his hands on the desk, and turned around to show his underpants at the camera. Members of the public gasped at his demeanour. Judge Smith responded, 'Thank you, Mr Pascoe, it's not going to do your case any good.'
After being jailed for life with a minimum term of nine years and ten months, Pascoe was given the opportunity to ask questions. He stated, 'I believe you have over-sentenced me, dog. I'm going to appeal. What more damage can you do? You have over-sentenced me.'
The Attack
The court heard that Pascoe broke into the victim's home while she slept on the sofa watching TV. He grabbed her legs and forced himself upon her, raping her for 'some time'. The woman pleaded with him to 'get off', to which he replied, 'F***ing shut up'. She was left terrified and 'had no option but to close her eyes and hope he went away'.
The attack left the woman with intimate injuries requiring surgery. In a statement, she said: 'Some nights I don’t sleep for days, because I’m terrified and nervous thinking someone going to walk in and hurt me again, the slightest noise makes me jump.'
Additional Offence and Trial
Immediately after the rape, Pascoe forced his way into another woman's home, causing her to 'scream and shout' before he eventually ran off. At trial, Pascoe denied raping the woman, claiming he had gone to 'get a light for a cigarette' from another woman who 'told him about the victim' in derogatory terms. He alleged he was 'curious to see who she was and what sort of person she was'.
Judge Smith recounted Pascoe's testimony: 'You said you went into her room uninvited, saying you were "running with the wind", and exposed your penis waking her up to "test the waters". To see what she would do when confronted. You said "if she shouted or screamed or told you to get out, you would have left". You said you were prompted by watching pornography on the TV and YouTube.'
Pascoe claimed the acts were 'consensual' and said he went to the other woman's flat as the first was 'easy peasy'. Jurors saw through his lies and convicted him of rape earlier this year.
Sentence
Pascoe, of no fixed abode, was jailed for life and must serve a minimum term of nine years and ten months in prison before he will be considered safe to be released by the Parole Board.
