Murder Probe After Man Dies Following Oldham Stabbing

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died in hospital nearly a month after being stabbed in a “shocking” attack in Oldham. Steven Dossett, 40, was rushed to hospital with stab wounds following a violent knife attack on Hale Lane, Failsworth, on June 19. He later died on July 4, prompting Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to escalate the case from grievous bodily harm to murder.

Police Response and Family Appeal

Police and paramedics responded to the scene on June 19 after reports of a knife attack. Officers maintained a large cordon until the following day as detectives investigated the area. GMP stated that Dossett’s family are devastated and are pleading for privacy as they are supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker, Senior Investigating Officer from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was a shocking attack, which has now evolved into a murder investigation following the death of Steven last week. His family are being supported by specialist officers at this time, and we are keeping them updated as our work continues at pace.”

Arrests and Appeal for Information

Four men and one woman, aged between 17 and 45, were previously arrested on charges of grievous bodily harm and assault. They have all been released on bail. A major appeal for CCTV and other footage from the vicinity has been issued, with witnesses encouraged to step forward.

DCI Barker added: “While we have made several arrests, we are still appealing for information and would urge anyone who witnessed anything of significance, or has any information relating to this incident, to please contact us. Even the smallest of detail may assist our enquiries.”
