Mother kills two children with scissors in India, then dies

A five-year-old boy and his four-year-old sister have died after their mother allegedly attacked them with scissors before taking her own life. The incident happened in Dantiya village, in India's Rajasthan state, on Sunday.

Police said Usha Sharma took her son Mukul, five, and daughter Nandini, four, into a room before locking the door. She then allegedly attacked the two young children with scissors before injuring herself.

Attack Followed Argument Over Playing Outside

According to the Times of India, police said the attack followed an argument over Nandini going outside to play.

Villagers rushed to the house after hearing the children screaming. They forced their way into the locked room and found Usha and both children injured.

Sister Injured After Seeing Scene

Usha's younger sister, Manisha, was also at the house and became distressed after seeing what had happened. She then injured herself by banging her head against a wall and the floor.

Villagers rushed all four of them to the sub-district hospital in nearby Kherli, where doctors declared five-year-old Mukul dead. Usha and Nandini both died during treatment.

Investigation Underway

Manisha suffered serious injuries and was transferred to a district hospital for further treatment.

Usha's husband, Amit Sharma, works for a private company in Gujarat, according to police. Police said a further investigation into the incident is underway.
