A man is due in court after a woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run at a zebra crossing in Liverpool. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 7, when an electric-assisted pedal cycle struck the woman as she stepped onto the pavement near the Linda McCartney Centre on Mount Vernon Street.
Woman in serious condition
The victim, aged 57, was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition. Merseyside Police responded to the scene at around 3:35pm and later charged a Liverpool man with S20 wounding following a serious injury fail-to-stop road traffic collision.
Suspect charged and remanded
Kieran Connor Sewards, 31, of Chatsworth Drive, Liverpool, has been remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear at Wirral Magistrates' Court on Friday, July 10. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, stated: “I would like to thank everyone who has come forward so far to assist with the investigation.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone who saw a male on a grey e-bike in the hours after the incident on Tuesday afternoon.
