Man critical after serious assault in Dublin city centre

A man in his 20s remains in a critical condition in hospital after a serious assault in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The attack occurred on Hawkins Street, Dublin 2, at approximately 12:20am on Sunday, 5 July 2026. The victim was rushed to Beaumont Hospital with severe injuries and is fighting for his life.

Gardaí appeal for witnesses

Gardaí have launched a full investigation and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardai are appealing for witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Hawkins Street, Dublin 2 at approximately 12.20am on Sunday, 5 July 2026. A man, aged in his 20s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital to be treated for serious injuries and he remains in a critical condition. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.'

Investigators are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Hawkins Street between 12:00am and 12:30am on Sunday morning. The spokesperson added: 'Anyone who was in the vicinity of Hawkins Street between 12am and 12.30am this morning Sunday 5th July, 2026 and who may have camera footage - including dash-cam footage - is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.'
