Man Collected Human Body Parts, Admitted Eating Them

A 30-year-old man arrested in Budapest on June 17 has admitted to collecting human body parts from abandoned cemeteries and his workplace at a hospital, and told police he ate them, according to Hungary's National Bureau of Investigation.

Grisly Discovery at Suspect's Home

Detectives searched the man's apartment after receiving a tip that he was storing human remains. They uncovered a house of horrors containing skulls, a complete lower leg, a hand, and a reconstruction of a human face made from facial skin. Other bones were found stored in a suitcase, and a heart was discovered in a jar—police are still determining if it is human or animal.

Police also seized the man's computer, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards, and data cards for further investigation.

Suspect's Confession and Motive

During questioning, the man admitted to collecting the body parts, stating he was particularly attracted to human remains. He also confessed to preparing and eating food made from the body parts. Police noted that he is "passionate about anatomy and pathology, and likes to dissect animals."

Authorities believe he obtained the body parts through his hospital job and by exhuming bodies from abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary.

Ongoing Investigation

The man is currently held on suspicion of illegal use of human bodies. Forensic experts will examine all recovered body parts, and police said the range of alleged crimes could expand once the origin of all parts is determined.
