Man charged after Stamford Hill assaults on Jewish women

A man has been charged after three Jewish women were assaulted in Stamford Hill on Monday. Abdisamad Siad, 33, of Pilgrims Way in Islington, faces three counts of assault by beating and is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Incident and Detention

CCTV posted online by the Jewish security group Shomrim shows a man running up to a woman, pausing briefly, and then punching her twice. The group said on Twitter that it had already been called because another “visibly Jewish” woman had reported being punched in the face on Clapton Common on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police was called at around 1.40pm on Monday following the reported assaults. The suspect had been detained by Shomrim, the volunteer Jewish neighbourhood watch firm, after the assaults.

Victims and Police Response

The victims suffered minor injuries. The Met said it has been increasing its presence in the local area following the assaults and is making efforts to engage with Jewish community leaders to provide further reassurance.

Additional Charge and Appeal

Siad has also been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent over an unrelated attack on a woman believed to be known to him in the Islington area on October 16. Anyone with information about the incidents on Clapton Common that could assist police is asked to call 101, quoting reference 3400/19OCT, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
