Anthony Durkan, a 36-year-old father of two from Islington, north London, has pleaded guilty to 26 voyeurism charges after being caught filming a woman through her window in the early hours. Police found hundreds of videos of women in various states of undress on his device.
Guilty pleas and offences
Durkan admitted 19 voyeurism charges at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, on top of seven guilty pleas entered on March 26 at the same court. The bulk of offences occurred in the last year, except one from January 12, 2020.
Prosecutor Edward Kalber described Durkan as someone who "poses a real risk to women and girls in our communities" and told the court: "He was filming them in their private residences in various states of undress."
How he was caught
Durkan was caught after doorbell footage captured him sneaking around a woman's Islington home and filming through her windows. In January 2026, a woman reported a man repeatedly visiting her home and filming through windows in early morning hours, tipped off by a neighbour who saw a man in black wearing a balaclava.
In March 2026, another woman reported a man filming through her window; she confronted him and he fled. On March 25, an undercover officer observed a man approaching a property and repeating the behaviour. Police arrested him moments later and identified him as Durkan.
Hidden gallery and investigation
Review of Durkan's phone revealed a hidden gallery containing hundreds of images and videos of women. Police said there is no evidence any of the women knew they were being filmed. A search of his home led to confiscation of five additional mobile devices and a small camera.
Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger said: "Durkan's offending represented a serious and sustained course of predatory behaviour, deliberately targeting women who were entirely unaware they were being filmed, without their consent and in the privacy of their own homes."
Appeal for victims
Police are appealing for women in Islington and north London who noticed unusual activity around their home between January 2020 and March 2026, especially late at night or early morning. They ask the public to report suspicious behaviour like someone lingering near homes, looking through windows, or using a phone or camera. Doorbell or CCTV footage could be vital.
Durkan was granted conditional bail and will be sentenced at a later date at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
