Major Fire in Swansea City Centre, Roads Closed

A major fire broke out at an industrial unit in Dyfatty, Swansea, on Saturday, July 4, prompting a large emergency response and road closures. The blaze, which began around 12:30pm on Dyfatty Street near Swansea railway station, sent plumes of black smoke across the city, visible from as far as Mumbles.

Emergency Response and Scale

Mid and West Wales Fire Service (MWWFS) described the incident as "quite a large scale incident." Ten appliances were deployed to control the fire, including six main pumps, two water bowsers, an aerial appliance, a high volume pump, and an incident command unit. By 4pm, the fire was reported as "under control," though the building suffered severe damage. Firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent properties.

Road Closures and Public Advice

South Wales Police closed roads from Dyfatty Street to Orchard Street and Newhall Road, which remained shut as of 6pm for ongoing investigations. Residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to heavy smoke. Police noted significant smoke around the Matthew Street flats. Witnesses reported seeing the smoke plume from Mumbles, several miles away.
