Heartbeat Star Jason Durr Joins EastEnders as Linda's Love Interest

EastEnders has confirmed that actor Jason Durr, best known for his role as PC Mike Bradley in the long-running ITV drama Heartbeat, has joined the BBC soap. He will appear on-screen this summer as Clive Masters, a local councillor who becomes a potential love interest for Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright.

Clive Masters Arrives in Walford

In the upcoming storyline, the local community centre faces the threat of redevelopment. Linda Carter leads the effort to save it, rallying other Walford residents. During this campaign, she unexpectedly strikes up a friendship with Clive, a councillor. As they spend more time together, they quickly realise their connection may go beyond friendship, leaving viewers to wonder if Linda will take a chance on a new romance.

Since the presumed death of her husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), who disappeared at sea on Christmas Day 2022, Linda has struggled to find another partner. Although she explored a spark with ex-lover Max Branning (Jake Wood), he is now engaged to Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

Jason Durr on His EastEnders Role

Speaking about joining the soap, Jason Durr said: "Few shows command their place in the national conversation quite like EastEnders, so I’m delighted to be joining the cast as Clive Masters. Working with the wonderful Kellie Bright has been an absolute joy and pleasure from day one." He added: "All the cast, crew and production staff have been incredibly generous, welcoming and good humoured. I’m excited for audiences to meet Clive and see what’s in store."

Jason Durr's Heartbeat Legacy

Jason Durr, now 58, rose to fame when he joined Heartbeat in 1997 as PC Mike Bradley, taking over the lead role after Nick Berry's departure as PC Nick Rowan. He quickly became a household name, appearing in the show for six years until 2003. Heartbeat, which aired 18 series between 1992 and 2010, remains one of ITV's most popular dramas and is still available to stream on ITVX.

PC Bradley first arrived in Aidensfield on his motorbike after working for the Metropolitan Police in London. Initially, his cocky attitude made it difficult for him to fit in with other officers, but he eventually settled into village life and became one of the show's most prominent characters.

Other Notable Roles

Before Heartbeat, Durr had a recurring role as Alex Hartman in the sci-fi series Jupiter Moon from 1990 to 1996, which aired on British Satellite Broadcasting's Galaxy Channel. After leaving Heartbeat, he appeared in numerous popular shows, including Lewis, Midsomer Murders, Marple, and New Tricks.

From 2016 to 2023, Durr played staff nurse David Hide in the medical drama Casualty, with the character also appearing in Holby City. David was a skilled nurse adored by colleagues but lacked confidence and often appeared awkward. In March 2023, he left the emergency room after struggling with a "failing healthcare system" and being consumed by grief over his son Ollie's death. After seeking psychiatric support, the stress of his professional and personal life drove him to quit.

What's Next for Clive Masters?

Jason Durr is already filming scenes for his guest stint in EastEnders and will appear on-screen this summer, the BBC confirmed. EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
