Lyons gang machete attacks reignite Glasgow gang war

The Lyons crime clan have launched brutal machete attacks on rival members of the Daniel family in Glasgow, reigniting a gang war that Police Scotland had declared over weeks earlier.

Senior members of the Lyons gang are understood to have instructed Ross McGill's Tamo Junto (TMJ) to launch the revenge attacks after the slaying of Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan in the Costa Del Sol last year.

The brutal assaults took place on the city's Curzon Street during the early hours of Friday morning and also in Honeywell Drive in Stepps. The individuals targeted are understood to be Ronnie Daniel and Robert Daniel.

Attack on Curzon Street and Stepps

Sources told the Record the TMJ footsoldiers ripped into the first property in Glasgow's Maryhill before trashing the home in their pursuit for Ronnie. The TMJ gang then travelled to Stepps in an attempt to target Robert.

A source told the Record: "A gang wearing balaclavas and carrying machetes kicked in the door of a house last night looking for Ronnie.

"They ripped the place apart and trashed the house and a heavy police presence has been on the scene ever since.

"The Lyons and TMJ gang are desperate to claim a serious scalp and Robert was then chased near his home last night by the same gang.

"Things have escalated again and the word on the street is this is the Lyons now trying to get revenge for what happened to Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons last year."

Background of the gang war

Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were shot and killed in a targeted execution at Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola on May 31 last year. The double murder marked one of the most violent episodes during the gang war, which exploded in Scotland last year after crime kingpin Mark Richardson's cronies ripped off Ross McGill with fake notes in a botched £500,000 cocaine deal.

McGill, otherwise known as Mr Big - who is the former head of Rangers' Union Bears - has been targeting the associates of Richardson ever since. The notorious Lyons got embroiled with the violence after feeding TMJ with information on how to target the Daniels, who are long-term underworld allies to jailed Edinburgh crime boss Richardson.

Violence has reignited just weeks after Police Scotland claimed the gang war had come to an end. The force said the feud had concluded after a "resolution of differences" between those involved.

Operation Portaledge and prior incidents

Operation Portaledge, which was launched in response to the gang warfare, responded to 84 separate incidents and resulted in 64 arrests. Multiple homes and businesses linked to the Daniel family were targeted during the turf violence.

In April last year, the home of pensioner Norman Daniel on Colston Drive in Bishopbriggs was torched. Footage showed the 72-year-old's bungalow-type property engulfed in flames after the home was targeted by thugs linked to Dubai-based mobster Ross McGill.

A property at John Marshall Drive in the same area, linked to his nephew Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel, was also set alight at the same time in what sources believed was a coordinated gangland strike. Days later, a house registered to Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel's mum Annette was attacked, with images showing the windows of the property in Glasgow smashed.

Speaking to the Record at the time, a source said: "Bonzo's windows are meant to have been bulletproofed after he was attacked a number of times by the Lyons mob over the last few years. The guys who were sent to attack his house are serious people so if they have managed to crack some holes in the windows it's possible it was with a gun." The string of incidents led Bonzo to flee Glasgow for Dubai.

Last year, the family home of the partner of slain gangster Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll was torched by gangland footsoldier Owen Martin. The 21-year-old cronie fled after sparking the blaze at Kelly 'Bo' Green's property in Glasgow's Drumchapel on May 13, 2025. Green, her 21-year-old son Konnor, his friend and three children were forced to evacuate in the middle of the night.

Martin was later snared following Operation Portaledge. Green is one of the daughters of late crime boss Jamie Daniel who died of cancer in 2016. She is also the widow of Daniel crime enforcer 'Gerbil' who was gunned down in an Asda car park in Glasgow's Robroyston in 2010. Martin was jailed for three years.

Earlier this year, a campervan belonging to the daughter of Norman Daniel was allegedly firebombed in Possilpark. Aileen Daniel's motorhome was caught ablaze at Bardowie Street on April 6 as her family were targeted on their home turf by the rival Lyons gang. She is the 44-year-old daughter of Norman, who built up a multi-million pound dirty cash empire with his late brother Jamie. A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection.

The Record has approached Police Scotland for comment.
