Islington shooting: Two men wounded near O2 Academy

Two men have been shot near the O2 Academy Islington in north London, leaving one with life-changing injuries. The Metropolitan Police say the men, aged 33 and 27, were found with gunshot wounds after officers were called at 10.25pm last night.

Both were rushed to hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening, but the older man's wounds are considered life-changing. Police tape has been placed along Liverpool Road, near shops including H&M and Uniqlo, and towards the entrance to Angel Central shopping centre.

Investigation under way

Police said no arrests have been made, and an investigation is under way. A Met spokesperson said extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said: "This was an incredibly reckless incident in a busy area close to a major venue and no doubt caused significant fear among members of the public. Violence has no place in our communities, and we are pursuing every available line of enquiry to identify those involved."

Increased police presence and appeal for information

Stewart added: "There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with concerns is urged to speak to officers. The Angel Centre remains closed as we conduct enquiries at the scene. We recognise the impact this is having, and we are grateful for the understanding and cooperation of the community. We are working with our partners to reopen the venue as soon as possible."

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact 101, quoting CAD 7386/27OCT, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
