Two teenage boys have appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a brutal stabbing incident aboard a train in Huntingdon that left multiple victims fighting for their lives.
The shocking attack unfolded on Saturday afternoon, sending panic through passengers travelling between Huntingdon and Peterborough. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of multiple stabbings aboard the moving train.
Victims Hospitalised with Serious Injuries
According to police reports, two men in their twenties sustained life-threatening injuries during the violent confrontation. Both victims were immediately transported to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where they remain in serious but stable condition.
British Transport Police confirmed they responded to the incident around 3:15 PM, with officers boarding the train at Huntingdon station to apprehend the suspects.
Teenage Suspects Face Serious Charges
The accused, both aged 17 from London, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday facing charges of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. Due to their age, they cannot be named under UK law.
During the brief hearing, the prosecution outlined the severity of the attack, describing it as a "sustained and brutal assault" that endangered numerous passengers aboard the busy weekend service.
Community Shock and Ongoing Investigation
The violent incident has sent shockwaves through the Huntingdon community, raising concerns about public safety on rail services. Local residents expressed alarm at the brazen nature of the attack during daylight hours.
Detective Inspector Andy Smith from British Transport Police assured the public that "this appears to be an isolated incident," but acknowledged the trauma experienced by witnesses and the broader community.
Investigators are continuing to piece together the events leading up to the stabbing and are appealing to any passengers who witnessed the incident but haven't yet come forward.
The teenage suspects have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Cambridge Crown Court later this month for a preliminary hearing.
