A massive fire broke out at a shop on Bury New Road in Salford during the early hours of this morning (August 6). The blaze tore through the large commercial premises near Hilton Street, with pictures and videos showing the Marc Darcy suit shop and warehouse consumed by flames and huge plumes of smoke billowing across Salford.
Crews battle overnight
Carl Haslam, a station commander at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, shared videos from the scene, saying crews had been 'working hard' overnight to tackle the inferno. Firefighters remain on scene this morning, with a stretch of Bury New Road closed to traffic. Residents in the surrounding area have been urged to keep windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke.
Eight fire engines called
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said eight fire engines were called to the scene at around 1.40am this morning. The fire measured around 50 by 50 metres when it was at its height.
Marc Darcy halts orders
Marc Darcy said it was currently unable to accept any orders amid the fire. A statement on the Marc Darcy website read: "Important notice. Due to a fire at our premises, we are temporarily unable to accept any new order. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and will reopen ordering as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."
