Nigel Farage Faces Human Fox Candidate in Clacton By-Election Circus
Farage Faces Human Fox in Clacton By-Election

Nigel Farage's bid to reclaim his parliamentary seat has descended into a spectacle as a wildlife campaigner dressed as a giant fox enters the Clacton by-election race. Robert Pownall, 27, founder of the group Protect the Wild, will don his furry costume to challenge the Reform UK leader, joining intergalactic space warrior Count Binface in what has become a highly unconventional contest.

Serious Message Behind the Costume

Pownall told the Metro that while his appearance may seem humorous, it carries a serious purpose: to highlight Farage's support for fox hunting and other country sports. "The storyline of this by-election is one of the most famous politicians of a generation standing for parliament against a man with a bin on his head," Pownall said. "Now he is going to have to do the same with a man in a fox costume. It is funny and silly. But the difference between me and Count Binface is there is a serious cause behind what I am doing."

Farage has previously branded ministers "authoritarian control freaks" over proposed bans on trail hunting and attended a festive hunt last Christmas. The Reform UK manifesto also pledges to protect "country sports" and scrap thousands of EU environmental laws.

Farage's Hunting Record Under Fire

Pownall expressed anger at Farage's portrayal as an anti-establishment figure. "The framing of this whole election is Farage vs the establishment. That p***es me off beyond belief. You cannot get any more establishment than Farage, who supports fox hunting," he said. "How can you claim to be this man of the people, when he supports pastimes that involve ripping apart animals?"

Pownall added: "I am standing to ensure British wildlife gets a voice. This is a good opportunity to put these issues on the map." He admitted he will do "as little as possible" during the campaign and joked it would be "funny" if Count Binface actually won.

By-Election Background

Farage triggered the by-election by resigning as an MP, stating he wanted to "stick two fingers up to the entire establishment" following a series of scandals. He is currently under investigation over claims he failed to properly declare a £5 million gift from a crypto billionaire and faces questions about his links to convicted criminal aristocrat George Cottrell. Voters are also warned not to confuse the human fox candidate with controversial Reclaim Party candidate Laurence Fox.
