The family of Nathan Bushby have paid tribute to the 31-year-old as a “cheeky, loveable rogue” after he was found with serious injuries on Yarm Lane in Stockton on Wednesday July 1. He died in hospital a short time later.
Family's tribute and plea for privacy
Nathan's sister described him as “cheeky and funny” and a “lovable rogue”. She said he leaves behind two young daughters and was “always loyal to those he cared for, especially his sister Sarah”. The family expressed gratitude for the support they have received but asked for privacy to grieve.
Cleveland Police said specialist officers are supporting the family. A 49-year-old man, Richard Shaw, has been charged with murder, sexual assault, possession of a bladed article, and assaulting an emergency worker.
Police appeal for information
Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Nathan's death has left a family devastated and the impact of their loss is profound. I am extremely grateful to the members of the public who have already come forward.” He urged anyone with information, including footage, to contact police, and asked the public not to speculate online to avoid prejudicing legal proceedings.
Court appearance
Richard Shaw appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Monday July 6. A provisional trial date was set for Monday February 1 2027. He is due to appear again on Friday July 24 for a preparation hearing. Anyone with information should call Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference 128489, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
