Ex-Liverpool footballer Jordon Ibe yanked braid from ex-girlfriend

Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe yanked a braid from his ex-girlfriend's head during a row outside her home in Lambeth, south London, leaving her with a bald spot, Croydon Magistrates' Court heard on Tuesday. Ibe, 30, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after previously denying the charge in March.

Details of the assault

The court was told that on December 14, Ibe and Amie Mayson were involved in a dispute when Ms Mayson confronted him about money she claimed he owed her. Ibe was carrying a bag containing drinks, snacks, and flowers, but when Ms Mayson threw muffins on the ground and called him a "druggy," he grabbed her by the hair and ripped out a braid, leaving a bald spot.

Prosecutors stated that the attack occurred outside Ms Mayson's residence in Lambeth. Ibe, who played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2016, made 41 appearances for the club before stints at Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth. He currently plays for Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League, having moved there in November 2025 after playing non-league football for two years.

Victim impact statement

In a victim impact statement read in court, Ms Mayson said the assault had severely impacted her confidence, self-esteem, and sense of self-worth. "Looking in the mirror is very distressing for me, the injury is a constant reminder of what happened and often leaves me feeling emotionally drained and upset," she said.

Court proceedings

Ibe, dressed in a black jacket and trousers, spoke only to confirm his details and change his plea. He apologized for misstating his postcode, saying, "Sorry, I'm a bit nervous." District Judge Polly Gledhill said: "We are in community order territory and I am going to ask for a pre-sentence report. I am not ruling anything out." She urged Ibe to be "as honest and open" with probation as possible.

Ibe was granted bail with conditions not to contact Ms Mayson or visit her home. He will be sentenced at the same court on September 4.
