Drone footage has revealed the scale of a major fire on Bury New Road in Salford, which broke out at around 1.40am on August 6. The blaze engulfed the Marc Darcy suit shop, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and over the surrounding area.
Fire crews battle blaze
Eight fire engines from Moss Side, Manchester Central, Salford, Broughton, Philips Park and Blackley fire stations, along with the Scorpion from Salford, a high-volume pump from Cheadle and a turntable ladder from Whitehill fire station, were dispatched to the scene. The commercial property, measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres, was well alight upon their arrival.
Firefighters used two jets, the turntable ladder and the Scorpion to tackle the fire. Crews remain in attendance this morning, working to extinguish the blaze and make the area safe. A huge hose reel has been used to dampen down the area, and a stretch of Bury New Road has been taped off.
Residents urged to stay away
Residents living near the area have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed, and people have been advised to avoid the area. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 1:40am this morning (Thursday, 6th August), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Bury New Road in Salford.
"Eight fire engines from Moss Side, Manchester Central, Salford, Broughton, Philips Park and Blackley fire stations, along with the Scorpion from Salford, a high-volume pump from Cheadle and a turntable ladder from Whitehill fire station, quickly arrived at the scene, where a commercial property measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres was well alight. Firefighters have been working hard to bring the blaze under control, using two jets, the turntable ladder and the Scorpion to tackle the fire.
"Crews remain in attendance as they continue to work to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Bury New Road is currently closed by GMP and residents are asked to stay away from the area and keep doors and windows closed."
Marc Darcy temporarily suspends orders
A statement on the Marc Darcy website said: "Important notice. Due to a fire at our premises, we are temporarily unable to accept any new order. We sincerley apologise for the inconvenience and will reopen ordering as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."
