A violent road rage incident involving a food delivery driver has left a 75-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital, according to police in Michigan.
Confrontation Over Speeding Turns Violent
The altercation occurred on Sunday evening at the intersection of Barberry Circle and Windingway Drive in Wixom. Authorities were called at around 5:30 p.m. after reports of an unconscious elderly man lying in the roadway.
The victim, identified as Lloyd Poole, aged 75, had allegedly approached a DoorDash delivery driver, 40-year-old Ryan Turner, to confront him about driving too fast through the residential neighbourhood.
Driver Claims Self-Defence Before Fleeing Scene
During the ensuing argument, Turner told police he felt threatened. He subsequently struck Mr Poole with a closed fist. The force of the punch caused the elderly man to fall backwards, striking his head on the pavement and losing consciousness.
Ryan Turner then allegedly drove away from the scene, leaving the injured Mr Poole lying in the street. The victim was rushed to hospital, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit in a critical condition.
Driver Surrenders and Faces Serious Charge
Following the incident, Turner later turned himself in at the Wixom police station. He was arrested and formally booked into the Oakland County Jail.
He now faces a charge of aggravated assault. A judge has set his bond at $35,000.
The case highlights the potentially deadly consequences of road rage and violent confrontations, particularly involving vulnerable individuals.
