A Walthamstow couple have been handed a 20-year prison sentence for a brutal hammer attack that left an 18-year-old man with life-changing injuries in a shocking case of violence that has rocked the east London community.
The Vicious Assault
Alana Odysseos, 23, and Shaine March, 26, carried out a premeditated attack on their victim in Walthamstow last September. The court heard how the pair lured the teenager to a location before subjecting him to a sustained and vicious beating with a hammer.
The assault was so severe that the young victim suffered multiple fractures to his skull and face, requiring extensive medical treatment and leaving him with permanent physical and psychological scars.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
During the trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the prosecution detailed how the attack appeared to be retaliation for a previous dispute. Both defendants were found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Judge Noel Lucas KC delivered the sentencing, stating: "This was a brutal and sustained attack using a hammer as a weapon. The victim has suffered life-changing injuries, both physically and psychologically."
Impact on the Victim
The victim, whose identity remains protected, provided a powerful impact statement read in court. He described how the attack has fundamentally altered his life, affecting his ability to work, socialise, and even perform basic daily activities.
"I no longer feel safe walking the streets," the victim stated. "The physical pain is constant, but the mental scars run even deeper."
Police Response
Detective Constable Sarah Temple, the investigating officer, commented after the sentencing: "This was a horrific and unprovoked attack that left a young man with devastating injuries. The substantial prison sentences reflect the seriousness of this crime and should serve as a warning that violence of this nature will not be tolerated in our communities."
The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about violent crime in London and the lasting impact such attacks have on victims and their families.
