Tragedy in Ballinlough: Woman Dies Following Assault

A woman has died and a man is in a serious condition in hospital following a reported assault in Cork on Monday night. The incident occurred outside a property in the Shrewsbury Downs area of Ballinlough at approximately 9:15pm on Monday, 17th November 2025.

Arrest and Hospital Treatment

Emergency services rushed a woman in her late 50s and a man in his 60s to Cork University Hospital, where they were both treated for critical injuries. Tragically, the woman was later pronounced deceased. The male victim remains in a serious but stable condition.

Gardai confirmed that a man in his 20s was arrested at the scene. He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Cork city.

Appeal for Witnesses and Information

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is set to be carried out. Gardaí in Anglesea Street have launched a public appeal for information.

They are urgently asking for anyone who was in the Shrewsbury Downs area of Ballinlough between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Monday to come forward. Investigators are particularly keen to receive any camera footage, including from home security systems or dash-cams.
