A major road in Rochdale was closed and emergency services attended the scene after a child was hit by a van.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on Yorkshire Street, near the junction with John Street, in the town centre at approximately 2:45pm on Wednesday, June 17. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a van collided with a child pedestrian.

A large cordon was put in place following the collision, and emergency services responded promptly.

Injuries and Response

Thankfully, the child's injuries were thought to be minor rather than serious, according to a force spokesperson. No arrests were made in connection with the incident.

A significant stretch of Yorkshire Street and John Street was closed, with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) stating it was likely to be shut for several hours. The road eventually reopened at around 4:30pm.

Authorities have not released further details at this time.
