A cash-in-transit driver was robbed at hammer point outside Farmfoods on Green Lane, Stoneycroft, after two balaclava-clad men snatched his cash box and made off in a car.
Merseyside Police were called at 11.20am today, November 3, to reports of the cash box robbery. A spokesman said: "The cash-in-transit driver was approached by a male wearing a balaclava who tried to grab the cash box.
"A second male, also wearing a balaclava, then got out of a stolen blue Audi Q2 parked nearby and ran towards the driver with a hammer. The males then made off in the car with the cash box in the direction of Tuebrook.
"The driver was not injured but was left shaken by his ordeal."
Vehicles recovered
The Audi was later recovered at B&M on Hornspit Lane in Norris Green. It is believed the two men then drove off in a grey Ford Fiesta on cloned plates.
The Fiesta was located on Lathom Road in Huyton. Both vehicles have been recovered for forensic examination.
Investigation underway
An investigation is underway and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke said: "We know that Green Lane will have been busy at that time of day with pedestrians, shoppers and motorists.
"I would ask anyone who was in the area to who saw anything or has dashcam footage to come forward if they think they have captured anything significant.
"I am also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the males in the Audi on Hornspit Lane or the Ford Fiesta on Lathom Road.
"The driver in this incident was not injured but he should not be put in fear for simply doing his job and it is vital we find these individuals."
