Adam Lamb, a 23-year-old car thief from Rochdale, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after police matched a footprint left in a kitchen to the shoes he was wearing during a burglary. The incident occurred in the early hours of February 6 in the Dam Lane area of Warrington, Cheshire, where Lamb and an accomplice broke into a property and stole the keys to a BMW, driving it off the driveway.
Swift Police Response and Tracking
The homeowner took a photo of the theft on their mobile phone and immediately dialed 999. A tracking device fitted to the BMW allowed Cheshire Police to locate the vehicle heading towards Bolton. Within 35 minutes, Greater Manchester Police officers found the car parked in an alleyway, with both men wearing balaclavas nearby. When police approached, the suspects jumped back into the BMW and led officers on a high-speed pursuit, reaching speeds of over 100mph in a 30mph zone before crashing into a parked car and a wall. Both men fled on foot but were quickly apprehended.
Overwhelming Evidence
A Cheshire Police spokesperson stated: "Lamb was found in possession of a quantity of cash and the keys to both the BMW and the house it was taken from." Mobile phone data also linked Lamb to the journey. Additionally, crime scene investigators identified a footwear mark left in the kitchen that positively matched the shoe Lamb was wearing at the time of the burglary. Detective Constable Rebecca Jubb commented: "Despite claiming he had no involvement in the crime, the overwhelming amount of evidence that our officers secured left Adam Lamb with no choice but to plead guilty."
Sentencing and Impact
Lamb, of Devonshire Road in Kirkholt, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to burglary and taking a vehicle without the owner's consent. At Liverpool Crown Court on July 3, he was jailed for 30 months. No details about the accomplice have been released. The case highlights the effectiveness of forensic evidence and rapid police coordination in bringing offenders to justice.
