Car Plunges From Japan Car Park, Killing Man, Injuring Wife

A 77-year-old man has died and his 76-year-old wife is in hospital with serious injuries after their car plunged from the third floor of a multi-storey car park in Japan.

The vehicle smashed through a safety wall and landed on its roof on the ground below, surrounded by debris. The incident occurred today (August 6) at a car park in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture, reportedly near a commercial facility.

Accelerator Mishap Suspected

According to Japanese news outlet FNN, police believe the driver may have accidentally accelerated while descending a ramp in the car park. The speed and momentum of the descent caused the out-of-control car to crash through the wall.
