The brother of a teenage boy found dead in Glasgow has paid tribute, saying he will “live forever in my heart.” Jack Mellon, 17, died following an alleged disturbance in the Ashgill Road area of Milton on Wednesday. Emergency crews attended the incident, but he sadly died at the scene.
Death Treated as Murder
Following a post-mortem examination, his death is now being treated as murder. A 22-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been charged and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, October 16.
Jack’s brother James led the tributes online. He said: “I still can’t believe you’re gone. A part of my heart has gone with you, and words can’t explain the pain I’m feeling right now. You were more than just my brother; you were a part of my life, my memories, and my heart. Life will never be the same without you.”
Family and Friends Remember Jack
James added: “I wish I could have one more conversation, one more hug, and one more chance to tell you how much you mean to me. Although you’re no longer here with us, you will forever live in my heart and in my memories. Rest peacefully, my brother. You will never be forgotten. Until we meet again.”
Others also paid tribute. Kieran Cambell commented: “Taken far too soon. Love him to bits, rest easy, bro.” Shannon Smith said: “Heartbreaking. I am so sorry to hear this, fly high, Jack. Sending my love.” Ellie Donnelly said: “Sending all my love. Nobody should have to say goodbye to a brother so soon.”
Balloon Release Planned
James invited family and friends to Hamiltonhill Park on Sunday night for a balloon release and fireworks in Jack’s memory. Mourners are asked to bring their own balloons for the send-off, which starts at 6:30pm.
A large police presence was seen in the Milton area on Thursday after Jack’s death. Forensic officers and hazmat teams were seen scouring the area in full-body white suits, masks, and gloves. Uniformed officers stood by as they guarded a sizable cordon.
Detective Inspector Lynn Donnelly said: “Our thoughts first and foremost are with Jack’s family and friends, and all those affected by this incident. We will have a police presence in the local area as we continue to conduct our enquiries, and I’d like to thank those who have already assisted with our investigation.”
Chief Inspector Mhairi Crawford said: “We know the loss of a young life is felt within our communities, and I would like to reassure the public that we are working tirelessly to fully investigate what happened. Specialist and uniformed officers continue to work together following this incident and anyone with information or concerns should speak with an officer. We know there were a lot of people in the area who may have been affected and I’d like to thank those who assisted the emergency services at the time.”
