Harry Poulton, a 24-year-old Brit who relocated from Brighton to Benidorm after a visit with friends at age 18, has warned holidaymakers to avoid three specific areas in the popular Spanish resort due to safety concerns. Benidorm attracts around five million British tourists annually, and Harry now considers his move the best decision he has ever made.
Three areas to avoid
In a TikTok video to his 40,000 followers, Harry identified the 'Yellow Brick Road' as a place to be cautious. This network of streets, including Leanto, Ibiza, and Leerida, forms the core of the nightlife scene. Harry advised: "The Yellow Brick Road – this little public pathway leads all the way up to the Rio Park. It has been known for small thefts like pickpocketing. During the day, it's absolutely fine. I'd recommend avoiding it at night."
The second spot is Pueblo Alley, near Levante Beach. Harry warned: "This is one I definitely recommend avoiding, especially late at night, as you do get the pickpockets hanging around this area. You also get the odd lady of the night. There are plenty of other ways around."
Topping his list is 'Mugger's Alley', which he described as "the most notorious – it's the one we all know. Known for pickpocketing, ladies of the night, it's just an area I would avoid. They're even doing these new taxi scams. It's crazy. Save yourself the hassle and cross the road."
Living costs and misconceptions
Despite these warnings, Harry remains a devoted fan of Benidorm. He claims many British tourists hold misconceptions about the resort, particularly regarding scams and overpriced goods. Since moving, his monthly living expenses, including bills, have dropped to between £500 and £1,000.
Harry concluded: "If you live here, you get it. Benidorm is paradise – and anyone who says otherwise is lying."
