Two brothers who appeared in a BBC documentary series were reportedly targeted in a shooting, with police searching for the gunman. Brothers Chris and Brian Cunningham, who featured on BBC's The Scheme in 2010, were allegedly involved in a dispute that led to the incident.
Horrified neighbours heard a "bang", while the brothers' mum, Annie Caddis, 61, suggested the attacker was actually looking for their cousin. A boarded-up window can be seen on the first-floor flat in Shortlees, Kilmarnock, where both Brian, 40, and Chris, 37, are believed to live.
Mum's Social Media Post
"It's my son's flat. Someone shot bullets through his window looking for my nephew, but no one is hurt," mum-of-five Annie wrote in a social media post.
Residents said police and forensic experts arrived at the scene last Saturday, five days after the incident. The attack reportedly took place around 8.20pm on October 12.
Neighbours' Reactions
"I heard a bang and looked out," one local said. "It was dark and I couldn't see anything so I didn't think anything else of it."
They added: "That was the Monday. Police didn't show up until the Saturday. I don't know how they think they'll catch them now."
Another person from the area remarked: "It's scary. This is a quiet street. There's never much bother, certainly nothing involving guns. We're shocked."
Police Investigation
Police chiefs are "following a number of lines of enquiry" and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Inspector Jamie Carruth said: "This was a completely reckless act and there could have been much more serious consequences. Forensic work has also been carried out. It is vital we trace the person responsible as soon as possible."
BAFTA-winning BBC Scotland documentary The Scheme follows the lives of six families living in the Onthank and Knockinlaw housing estates in Kilmarnock, Scotland. The first episode introduced viewers to the Cunningham family, made up of father Gordon and mother Annie, their sons Chris, Brian and David, and their daughter Kimberley, who was 15 at the time. During the show, Chris, who was a teenager, ended up in trouble with drug dealers, while Brian ended up in prison after a breach of the peace charge.
