Axe attacker struck off after partner assault

A social care worker who chased his partner with an axe through the streets of Edinburgh has been struck off by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). Bogdan Gabriel Colt, known as Gabe, was jailed for 22 months and given a 25-year non-harassment order last October after being found guilty of engaging in a course of conduct which was abusive of his partner, Claire Hoggins.

Attack Details

Colt, 40, who the Daily Record understands is no longer in prison, launched the frenzied attack on the mother after accusing her of cheating. He had previously attacked her at her home in Saline, Fife. The thug, who lived in Bathgate, tracked Claire down to her friend's address using a device he had bugged her car with, then chased her with the axe on the streets of the capital. Armed police brought the terrifying pursuit to an end after a neighbour raised the alarm.

Images Show Damage

A series of images laid bare the extent of damage caused by Colt, whose actions were deemed "malicious" by the SSSC. In one image, the axe used by Colt can be seen lodged in a tree after he embedded the weapon in the trunk shortly before his arrest. In others, the black Renault Clio used by Claire at the time shows the after effects of the attack, with the rear windscreen smashed to pieces and the passenger's side of the front windscreen also smashed.

Background and Conviction

The pair had met at a care home in Fife, where Claire worked as a senior nurse and Colt was employed as a care assistant. They were together for over two years. However, Colt accused Claire of cheating on him with her male friends and, in the lead up to the violent attack, threatened to attack her with an axe.

Following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, a jury found Colt guilty of engaging in a course of conduct which was abusive of his partner by repeatedly calling her names, accusing her of cheating and tracking her car and chasing her while armed with an axe. He also admitted being in possession of the axe and smashing up her vehicle with the weapon in September last year.
