Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has expressed his devastation following the death of his former dance partner, Ann Widdecombe, at the age of 78. The former Tory MP and Express columnist passed away on Friday, July 10, prompting an outpouring of tributes from friends and fans.

Du Beke's Emotional Tribute

Taking to Instagram, Du Beke shared a heartfelt video message. He said: "The saddest of news we've heard today, the passing of the lovely Ann Widdecombe. I have to tell you, I had the most brilliant time with Ann on Strictly Come Dancing. She became a real friend."

He added: "She was fun, she was upbeat, she was positive, she was supportive, she was game. She wanted to enter into the spirit of the whole thing, and we had an incredible time together, and we stayed firm friends."

Du Beke concluded: "My thoughts go out to all of her nearest and dearest and all her family. This is a sad day, and I'm devastated by the news of Ann's passing, but I shall remember her fondly and miss her."

Police Launch Murder Investigation

Devon and Cornwall Police have described Widdecombe's death as "suspicious" and launched a murder investigation. Officers were called to her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, at around 11:40 am on July 9 following a report from the ambulance service.

According to the police statement: "Sadly, 78-year-old Miss Widdecombe was located deceased within the property. She had sustained serious injuries." Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
