Andrew's Bleak Summer: Isolated, Paranoid, Abandoned by Ferguson

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is enduring a bleak summer, living in exile on the King's Sandringham estate in Norfolk, isolated from his family and former friends. The 66-year-old former prince, stripped of his titles and royal duties, faces a police investigation and has been rarely seen in public since being evicted from Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Rare Public Appearance at Horse Trials

Andrew was recently spotted 'sneaking' into the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials, joining his younger brother Edward and his wife Sophie. An onlooker told The Sun: "Andrew sneaked in and sneaked out and definitely didn't want to be seen. But I saw Andrew leave the field at 10.30am, just after Sophie had ridden her round, then I saw Edward walking towards his car, smiling shortly afterwards."

Excluded from Royal Events

Andrew was notably absent from the annual Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle in June, a stark reminder of his fall from grace. A source told the Daily Express: "He's become used to watching his family celebrate Trooping without him, but Garter Day will be a really tough day for him. It's one of those days that reminds him of all that he's lost. He's feeling more isolated than ever; he's completely alone."

Security Concerns

Andrew reportedly fears for his safety, believing he is the most 'at-risk' member of the royal family. Last month, a man was issued with a stalking protection order after an alleged altercation near Andrew's Norfolk home. A source said: "This is a clear demonstration of the fact that you cannot un-invent a member of the Royal Family. Regardless of the fact that Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has had his titles removed and is no longer a working royal, he still continues to face security threats."

Failed Auction Highlights Public Disdain

In another blow, a pair of flying gloves worn by Andrew during the Falklands War failed to attract a single bid at auction. Valued at between £1,000 and £2,000, the gloves did not reach their reserve. Auctioneer James Grinter noted: "Andrew was at the height of his popularity during the Falklands War and very highly regarded at the time. It would have been inconceivable then that he would be disgraced for his subsequent behaviour."

Entitlement and Strained Relationships

Despite his reduced circumstances, Andrew reportedly retains a sense of entitlement. He has insisted on being called 'Your Royal Highness' at home and was insulted when the King offered him use of a cleaner, groundsman, and cook on an ad hoc basis. His relationship with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson has also fractured; a friend described her as on a 'secret sofa-surfing world tour', using burner phones to stay hidden. The insider said: "There are a number of people - including some well-known names - that are still quietly faithful to Fergie and wealthy enough to house her. But, quite understandably - they want to keep that connection to the disgraced ex royal completely under wraps."
