80 Firefighters Battle Blaze Near Turnpike Lane Tube Station

A large fire broke out on High Road in Wood Green, North London, near Turnpike Lane tube station on Monday evening, July 6, 2026. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) deployed 12 fire engines and approximately 80 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

Fire Details and Response

The LFB received the first of 25 emergency calls at 21:25 BST. The fire affected two adjoining mixed-use buildings on High Road. Fire crews from Hornsey, Tottenham, Southgate, Holloway, and neighbouring stations were dispatched to the scene. The blaze was brought under control by around midnight, though firefighters remained on site overnight to fully extinguish the fire.

Casualties and Evacuations

Fifteen residents were safely led from the affected properties. Two people were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation. The LFB confirmed that the cause of the fire is currently unknown.
