Finn Dickinson, Known as Rivers, Dies Suddenly at 21
Finn Dickinson, a 21-year-old history student from Whitley Bay, has died suddenly, prompting an outpouring of tributes from friends and university staff. Known as Rivers, he was in the third year of his degree at Lancaster University when tragedy struck last month. An inquest into his death is set to open at Preston Coroners' Court on Thursday, July 2.
University and Friends Pay Tribute
Lancaster University released a statement expressing deep regret over the death of Finn Dickinson, a member of Cartmel College. The university noted that Finn, also known as Rivers, was actively involved in student life, from politics to sports groups. An online book of condolences has been created for those who knew him to share messages.
Friend Eve Davison wrote: "Rivers was a positive, funny, compelling person that I had the pleasure of getting to know over the last year. The news of Rivers' death shocked and saddened me... Even in the short time we knew each other, Rivers was a bright, smart, funny, considerate and kind friend."
Academics and Friends Remember His Character
Jenni Hyde, a lecturer, described Finn as "one of the best students one could hope to have in class - intelligent, engaged, interested and willing to share ideas and questions, but also never dominating the conversation." Hannah Surtees, a friend from secondary school, recalled meeting him in year 9 science and their shared love for the band My Chemical Romance. She wrote: "You were always so attentive and smart... You were always thinking of others and had such a magnetic personality."
