Around 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines were called to a house fire on Mount Pleasant Road in New Malden on Saturday evening, the London Fire Brigade said.
Fire damage and response
The ground floor of the semi-detached property was completely destroyed by the fire, while half of the roof was damaged. A car port in the front garden was also destroyed.
Firefighters removed a gas cylinder from the scene and cooled it to an ambient temperature as a precaution amid fears it could explode when exposed to heat. No injuries have been reported.
Smoke warning and ladder deployment
Station Commander Steve McGhie was at the scene. He said: "The fire was producing smoke that affected the local area, residents nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed where possible."
He added: "One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was deployed as a water tower, allowing crews to tackle the flames from above."
