A Mother's Unimaginable Loss
A Wisconsin mother has spoken of her profound grief after her three young children died in a devastating fire at their father's apartment on Thanksgiving Day. Jourdan Feasby told CBS 58 that the tragedy "just doesn't seem real yet to me… I can't believe that this is my reality right now."
Feasby had spent Thanksgiving morning with her children - Rylee Levi, 10, Connor Liam, 9, and Alena Ellen, 7 - before they went to spend the evening with their father as part of their shared custody arrangement.
The Deadly Thanksgiving Blaze
Around 10:30 p.m. on November 27, emergency services rushed to a structure fire at a multi-family apartment building in Kenosha. Photographs from the scene showed a blackened building surrounded by police cordons.
Tragically, both Rylee and Connor died at the scene from fire-related injuries. Their younger sister Alena was airlifted to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The children's father was treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital and has since been discharged. Authorities confirmed that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A Family's Light Extinguished
Speaking through her grief, Feasby revealed how her Christmas plans had turned from joyful anticipation to unimaginable sorrow. "I was so excited for Christmas shopping but now it's just caskets," she told reporters. "They brought all of this light that now I don't have."
A GoFundMe campaign established to support the grieving family had raised over $40,000 by Sunday, demonstrating an outpouring of community support.
The fundraising page described the children as "such bright lights in this world — each one a blessing in their own unique way." It continued: "They were joyful, loving, full of personality, and deeply cherished by everyone who knew them. No parent should ever have to bury their children, let alone all three at once."
Feasby expressed her profound sense of loss, stating: "I feel so alone, to go from having my whole world to nothing." She added: "Hug your babies and enjoy them this Christmas because you could've been in my position and you never know when it's the last day."
The devastated mother also reflected on what might have been different, saying: "You can sit here and say all you want to, and say that 'I would've done this, this, and this,' but when you're in the situation, it's completely different."
She concluded with heartbreaking conviction: "But I will tell you that if I was in that situation, without a doubt, my kids would've been out or I would've been dead with them."
