A close-knit West Belfast family is preparing for a heartbreaking joint funeral after a mother and daughter died peacefully just days apart.
A Community in Mourning
Annmarie McCann (nee Mervyn) passed away surrounded by her loving family in hospital on 4th December 2025. Her daughter, Bridin McCann, had died just a few days earlier, on 30th November 2025, also in hospital and surrounded by family. The double tragedy has left their family, friends, and the wider community devastated.
According to a tribute from Mallon Funeral Directors, Annmarie was the beloved wife of Patsy and the adored mother to Francine, Patrick, Carleen and the late Bridin. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Bridin was the beloved daughter of Patsy and the late Annmarie, a loving mother to Caoimhe and Conall, and a sister to Francine, Patrick and Carleen.
Funeral Arrangements and Tributes
The family has announced that Annmarie and Bridin will be laid to rest together. They will leave from the family home at 59 Colinvale on Monday 8th December at 9.30am for a 10am Requiem Mass in The Church of the Nativity. Burial will follow in Milltown Cemetery.
The local GAA club, St Gall GAC, expressed profound sadness in a social media post. The club noted that Annmarie was the beloved mother and grandmother, and Bridin the sister and aunt, of several club members. "We offer our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Carleen, Philly and the McCann family circle at this most difficult time," the statement read.
