A young boy is in a critical condition in hospital after a terrifying shark attack at a popular Sydney beach on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at Shark Beach, located within Nielsen Park in the harbourside suburb of Vaucluse.
Emergency Response at the Scene
New South Wales Police confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 4:20pm on Sunday. First responders, including intensive care paramedics and aeromedical units, rushed to the location. The boy, believed to be around 12 years old, was pulled from the water with serious injuries to both legs.

Following initial treatment, the child was taken by ambulance to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick. A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance stated the boy was being treated for his critical injuries at the specialist paediatric facility.
In the wake of the attack, authorities immediately closed Shark Beach to the public. Police have advised swimmers to avoid entering the water in the area while investigations continue and as a precautionary safety measure.
