Ross Grealey, a father described as 'one-of-a-kind', has died after being hit by a Bee Network bus on the A6 Buxton Road in Stockport. Emergency crews were called to the scene on Friday, October 30, following reports of a collision between a bus and a pedestrian. A man died at the scene.
His daughter Carla and son Ross have paid tribute to him, saying they are heartbroken. Ross was also supported by The Wellspring in Stockport, an organisation that helps homeless people, whose team also paid tribute to him.
Family tributes
Carla said: "Dad, I’m truly heartbroken. I still can’t understand any of it. I just wish it hadn’t happened. Devastated isn’t even the word. I can’t get my head around the fact that you’re no longer going to be here. You were a pain in the arse, but you were MY pain in the arse!"
She added: "I’m so proud to call you my dad. You were one of a kind, loved and liked by so many people. My boy JJ will carry your beautiful curls, and I promise he will grow up knowing all about you and how special you were. He will never forget you, and neither will I."
His son Ross said: "Dad, I honestly can’t believe this has happened. I wish me and you had more time together. There’s so much left unsaid and so much more I wish we could have shared. We were both to blame for things at times, but one thing I never want you to doubt is how much I truly love you."
Granddaughter born a day later
Ross's new baby granddaughter was born just a day after he died. His son Ross said: "You’re now a grandad to a beautiful baby girl, who was born just a day after this tragedy. I wish with all my heart that you could have met her. She will grow up knowing all about you, your mad life and the person you were."
Carla also mentioned her son JJ, saying he will carry Ross's curls and grow up knowing about him.
Tributes from The Wellspring
The team at The Wellspring said: "Ross was loved by each and every person who had the pleasure of knowing him. Always with a story to tell, a smile on his face and a hug to give. He made our world a better place simply by being in it."
They added: "Our deepest sympathies go out to Carla, Ross and all the family at this very sad time. We will cherish the memories, remember him always and miss him forever. Rest in peace, Ross with love from all at The Wellspring."
Investigation and road closures
Following the incident, police, ambulance and fire crews were pictured at the scene on the A6, with officers working in the road between the Premier Inn Stockport South and Alma Lodge Hotel. The road was closed for several hours as investigations were carried out.
Alison Chew, TfGM’s Bus Network Director, said previously in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the death of a pedestrian following an incident involving a Bee Network bus this morning. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time."
She added: "The incident happened on the A6 Buxton Road, near Winifred Road in Stockport at around 10:45am. Emergency services are on the scene, with road closures in place and the 192 service is currently diverted. We’re working closely with the police and our bus operator to provide support as they respond at the site, and will do all we can to support the investigation into the circumstances."
