Pensioner and labrador killed in Bristol bus crash

A man in his 70s and his pet labrador died after being struck by a bus in Bristol on Thursday night. The collision happened at the junction of Stockwood Lane and Hollway Road at around 11.10pm, and both the pedestrian and the dog were critically injured and died at the scene.

Driver detained after fatal collision

The bus driver, believed to be in his 30s, was detained by officers and remains in custody as enquiries continue. The road has since reopened after police carried out investigations at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage. Formal identification of the pedestrian has not yet taken place, but his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a specialist family liaison officer.

Neighbour pays tribute to man and his dog

Neighbour Paul Oakley told Metro: “He would often stop for a chat when he was out walking his dog. He loved him more than life itself. He was always out walking him in all weathers and used to see him most evenings. It’s so very sad.”

Oakley added: “Still can’t get my head around how the bus driver couldn’t see him. Avon and Somerset police are investigating what happened so I am sure the details will come to light in time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
