Man Critical After Falling From M6 Bridge and Being Struck by Vehicles

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from a motorway bridge onto the M6 and being hit by a lorry and a car. The incident occurred at junction 27, Charnock Richard, at around 9.35pm on Friday, April 3.

Police said the man fell from the bridge onto the southbound carriageway, where he was struck first by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and then by a Vauxhall Adam. Both drivers stopped at the scene and are being treated as witnesses; no arrests have been made.

The man was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition as of Saturday morning. Lancashire Police has voluntarily referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because officers had contact with the man earlier in the day.

The motorway was closed in both directions but has since reopened. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Sgt Joe Calvert of the Road Policing Unit said: 'If you were driving in the area at the time and saw anything which could help our investigation or have dashcam footage, please contact the police as soon as possible.'

Anyone with information can email sciu@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 1271 of 3 April 2026.
