Sydney Flight Attendant Dies in Tragic Fiji Roadside Accident
A Virgin Australia flight attendant from Sydney has been killed in a horrific roadside accident in Fiji, just days after celebrating her 28th birthday. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of March 28 in Martintar, a central suburb of Nadi near the airport.
Details of the Fatal Crash
According to police reports and local media including the Fiji Times, the tragedy unfolded around 5am when a taxi driver, believed to be in his 30s, allegedly collided with another vehicle before losing control of his car. The out-of-control taxi then veered off the road and struck Lucinta Evans as she stood on the roadside near the airport. She died at the scene from her injuries.
Police have indicated that driver negligence may have played a significant role in the fatal crash. The driver is expected to be questioned by authorities as investigations continue into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
Remembering Lucinta Evans
In a funeral notice, Ms Evans' heartbroken family described her as being 'bold, open and full of life' and requested that attendees wear colourful clothing in recognition of her vibrant personality. Her sister, Gabriana Evans, shared emotional words about her sibling's character.
'She was truly full of life, with a light and energy that touched everyone who knew her,' Gabriana said. 'Right now, we are all trying to process this loss and ask for some privacy as we grieve together. Thank you for keeping Lucinta, her beloved partner, and our close family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.'
Community Response and Memorial Efforts
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Ms Evans' family, with organiser Luisa Ledua explaining that 'a portion of the funds will also be used in Lucinta's memory - through road safety advocacy or a memorial plaque - with the hope of raising awareness and helping prevent future incidents at this location.'
Virgin Australia's Fijian cabin crew have posted a series of heartfelt tributes in memory of their colleague. Cabin manager Lissy Hyde wrote: 'As your Cabin Manager, I come back to the place where it all happened. I won't be able to look after you anymore on our flights... I ask you to look after us from above. Fly with us my girl, beat us to every destination so we know you're there. You are loved, and we will continue to live life as bright and loud as you.'
Another flight attendant added: 'She will be incredibly missed. I'm thinking of our VA Fijian family so much! Losing crew is like losing family and I can't imagine how you're feeling but love you all so much.'
A former Virgin Australia cabin crew member described Ms Evans as 'the life of the party, main character baddie with the best personality and got along with anyone she crossed paths with! Gone way too soon beautiful Cinta, fly high.'
The tragic loss of this young flight attendant has sent shockwaves through both the aviation community and her personal circles, highlighting the devastating consequences of road accidents and the importance of continued road safety awareness.
