Elaine McCulloch, 63, dies in crash near Shotts, police appeal

The woman who died in a horror crash near Shotts has been named as Elaine McCulloch, 63. She was a rear seat passenger in a grey Ford Focus involved in a collision with a black Mercedes GLA at the junction of the A71 and B715 shortly after 12:50pm on Friday.

Emergency services attended the scene, but Ms McCulloch could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later. The male driver of the Ford was taken to hospital for treatment, while the driver of the Mercedes was uninjured.

Family tribute

Ms McCulloch's family released a statement through Police Scotland, saying: “The family of Elaine McCulloch are devastated on the passing of our cherished mother, nana, and the rock of the family. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to offer their condolences.”

Police appeal

Sergeant Gary Stewart said: “Our thoughts remain with Elaine’s family at what is an extremely difficult time for them. Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. If you were driving in the area at the time, please check any dash-cam footage to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
